TROUTMAN FAMILY POUND CAKE.... Ok, grab your pen and a recipe card. I rarely give this out. No secret, but folks just dont take the time to make a cake the way their great grandmother did! I do. Always will. Make one for yourself. Then in a few weeks make one for a friend or someone in need. Watch their faces. You wont forget how your heart feels......ever. Enjoy! 1 pound of lightly salted butter, 4 sticks, ( not margarine) softened 4 cups of sifted all purpose flour ( I use White Lily) 3 1/4 cups of sugar 10 large eggs (I use 9, then add a 1/4 cup of milk) 1/4 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice 1 tablespoon of pure vanilla extract Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a 10 inch tube pan. The deeper the better. Never use a Bundt pan! Have your butter, eggs and lemon juice at room temperature. In a large mixing bowl cream butter and sugar. Add flour and eggs alternately, mixing thoroughly after each egg. Finish with lemon and vanilla and milk if you chose that option. Pour batter in cake pan. Bump pan a few times to settle the batter. Trust me, it makes a difference. Bake at 325 degrees for 1/12 hours. Let stand for 15 minutes on a wire rack to cool before removing the cake from the pan. After you make one or two, it becomes routine. I have made hundreds of these cakes over thirty years and only two have failed me. Delicious and filled with memories. We need to slow down and make others happy. Good luck and blessings as you bake........ Curtis
