TRUE STORY Late 1990s Mrs. Stevenson was 72 in her mid 40s. She had long black hair down to her lower back. She was a local resident of the beautiful city of Santa Cruz. However, she was never enrolled as a student here at the school. But Mrs. Stevenson was so fond of the students, especially those of Porter college. She was intrigued by the welcoming socialness of the students in the college to the point where she would visit the quad on a weekly basis during the day whenever she had the free time. She loved to watch the sunset at the squiggle, stroll in the meadows, and walked through the apartments of Porter. Shed offer home cooked meals, gift baskets, and holiday notecards to students of the college. Oh how she loved to be a student here. She even purchased food from the pet store to feed the deer, raccoons, and squirrels of the campus, and is known to be responsible for having the animals come out in the night time. Mrs. Stevenson was always curious of what the inside of the resident buildings were like, but never once step foot in out of courtesy and respect. One day during the fall quarter, an intoxicated douchebag student ridiculed and teased her in regards to her status of not being a current student in front of those who were in the quad, it struck her chord. In response, she came to the quad one night crying during quiet hours while the residents from both A and B building were asleep, CSOs had just got off duty, and it was fairly quiet as the moon brightened the night skies. Ms. Stevenson climbed up the totem pole, tied a rope around her neck, and with tears running down her face, she jumped off from the top, bawling. The following early morning, custodians of the campus discovered her body. The custodian reported tears were still running down her face and little groans before contacting CSOs having her body removed it before the students woke up. He was confused whether she was dead or still alive for he checked for her pulse, any breathing, or signs that represented any signs of life. Ms. Stevenson was stone cold, stiff, and was slightly swinging from the rope. The local coroner of the Santa Cruz Police Department claimed she died a couple hours before the custodian discovered her body. The cause of death however was severe depressions rather than any fracture bones from the neck or suffocation. But she was brought in with tears still rolling down her face. Unaware of this incident, students today report hearing cries in the middle of the night, at the quads and even at the apartments. Some students claim to have seen a tall woman strolling through the meadows during the night time, in the middle of the forest between the trees, and near the squiggle from a distance. Occasionally students from the other colleges as far as Merrill reported seeing a tall woman lurking amongst the buildings, crying. A handful of CSOs left the school looking for another job after having one too many run ins with her, but never gave their stories of their experience. One student who witnessed the interaction between the CSOs and Ms. Stevenson said CSOs were following the sound of crying, which lead them to the bridge around the Kresge/Redwood Grove apartments area. The student claims CSOs approached the 72 Mrs. Stevenson, only to have seen her jump off the bridge. They didnt hear a thump as they looked down and also did not see her body. Confused, they began to rush off the bridge to find her. But as soon as they started to run, the student reported seeing a hand reaching out from the side, and grabbing one of the CSOs ankle from underneath and tripped one of them. The CSOs got up and ran off without ever coming back and failed to report the incident. Today, students from both A and B building of Porter College see figures of a person in the trees as they look out their windows, somebody walking amongst the ground crying, or just strolling through the quads. Some reported to hear sounds in the middle of their hallways in the middle of the night, under the assumption its their floor mates returning late from a night out, only to discover a tall person with long black hair that didnt resemble anybody living on their floor. One student at College 9 a couple years after the incident, had an experience of somebody knocking on their door, checking the peephole she saw a tall woman walking away. Another student from Oakes in the early 2000s, got up to use the bathroom and while washing his hands, in the mirror he saw a face coming over from inside of the stalls. He pushes the door discovering that it was unlocked to find nobody inside. In the mid 2000s, a transfer student from Porter College witnessed a tall woman hand feeding a deer and a family of raccoons in the quad. In that same year, a student in the same building, but from a different floor reported opening his door after repeated knocks, only to discover seeing nobody and the lights all turned off on the floor. After looking both left and right, the lights of the hallways suddenly turns on. Under the assumption that somebody was approaching, the student waited to see who it was. But after approximately 30 seconds of waiting, nobody came. He did however, heard a cry from around the corner and a door shut. Mrs. Stevenson was never enrolled here at the beautiful campus of the University of California Santa Cruz, but shes a student here at heart and will forever live here as long as the school operates.
