***TRUE STORY*** a Waterloo student, new to the country, was getting ready to apply for co-op placements; some of his buddies told him that during the interview, when asked what his salary expectations are - demand $75,000. His buddies conjured up valid arguments for this high pay grade. A few weeks went by and this Waterloo student got an interview from a nationwide engineering company. As the interview was coming to an end, the interviewer asked so what are your salary expectations during this co-op term? Without any hesitation and with full confidence, the student replied $80,000 The interviewer paused for a minute, went through the students resume again and his notes and then leaned forward and said You know what, we will give you $105,000. The Waterloo student was thrilled, realizing that all the advice his buddies gave was paying off. In fact, the interviewer continued, we will also provide you with a $5,000 moving allowance, a new car with insurance and gas allowance. Youll be moving to our corporate office and work alongside our VPs and help manage our larger projects. Youll also be flying out to Dubai, Hong Kong and Hawaii to deal with our international clients. And well even pay off your student loans... At this point the student was beginning to question himself. Damn, am I that amazing? He thought to himself. do you have any questions? The interviewer asked. To clarify and make sure he wasnt dreaming, the student asked Yes, are you kidding me? The interviewer stared back at the student. He closed his file, stood up, and walked towards the door; opened it and pointed down the hall replying well, you started it. Have a nice day šŸ˜³
