TUESDAY TRIVIA 5/13/14 QUESTION #2 CLUE Two films (GODS POCKET and FADING GIGOLO) that arrive at Railroad Square Cinema this weekend both feature John Turturro. Although GODS POCKET may be better-known as being the feature film directing debut of actor John Slattery (TVs Mad Men and Maine-made film BLUEBIRD) and one of the final film performances of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman and FADING GIGOLO may be better known for providing a rare film role for Woody Allen outside of a film that he himself had directed, John Turturro has a key role in the former and wrote, directed, and stars in the latter. One might even wonder if there is a mini-John Turturro film festival happening. This would not be the first time that Turturros work has been recognized and celebrated in Waterville, Maine. He is a past winner of the coveted Moose for Mid-Life Achievement at the Maine International Film Festival. In which year did John Turturro receive this award? A. 2003 B. 2004 C. 2007 D. 2008 E. 2010 CLUE: If you are having problems coming up with a guess--I mean, an answer, you may find this helpful. Perhaps you remember this, but the award was presented in conjunction with a screening of the quirky musical ROMANCE & CIGARETTES. Turturro wrote and directed this film, but had only given himself a small acting role. The film featured James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon, and Kate Winslet. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2005, but did not get released in the US until 2007. The film was not shown at the Maine International Film Festival until after its US release.
