Tag. Youre it! After posting his cool-books list Kingsley has asked me to share mine. I am not mentioning H2G2 and a few others since they are on everyones list universally. Heres 10 books I think are cool ... * The Sirens of Titan ~ where Kurt Vonnegut tells all of us to calm our t*** (metaphorically), in a style thats all too unique. * A History of the World in 6 Glasses ~ Tom Standage. A must read for all ethanol connoisseurs (hic!) with an interest in the history of how beer, wine and rum have changed the world, literally! * 1984 ~ George Orwell. Needs no description. I read this book in a single sitting, and is one of my all time favorites. * Into Thin Air ~ Jon Krakauer. A series of ill-choices and over-eager money-spenders turned March 1996 into the worst expedition on Mt. Everest which left 8 people dead. Jon Krakauer was one of the men who made it out alive, and this is his first hand account. * Games Indians Play ~ V Ragunathan gives a witty and uncomfortably agreeable account of the Indianness of Indians. Fun read. * Ultra-marathon Man ~ Dean Karnazes. Professional mad man who happens to be a super-athlete and the first man to run at the South Pole (English doesnt do justice to how scary and near impossible this is) * The Martian ~ Andy Weir. You are an astronaut stuck on Mars with resources that wont last beyond a month and you have to stay alive, somehow. Just finished reading this one. Perfect for geeks, written by a geek. * Brocas Brain ~ Carl Sagan. I get my dose of philosophy by reading Sagan. * The Great Indian Novel ~ Shashi Tharoor. The Mahabharatha of the Indian Freedom Struggle. A work of fiction that isnt. * The Greatest Show on Earth ~ Richard Dawkins. The theory of evolution for dummies. Another personal favorite. Next up!
