Talk about a busy last twenty four hours... rain chances have - TopicsExpress

Talk about a busy last twenty four hours... rain chances have moved completely out of Alabama, and now we start the process of drying everything out. Temperatures started out on the warm side after midnight with most of Alabama somewhere in the upper 60s to low 70s. Since there is cold air behind the frontal boundary responsible for the rain showers, we actually saw our high for the day this morning. We will continue to see those temperatures stay pretty consistent in the mid to upper 50s before the sun sets, then they will begin to fall again throughout the afternoon and evening hours. The new workweek looks to stay dry, which is great after all the rain we have seen across central and southern Alabama over the past few rain events. Even though we are not talking about any showers, we still have another big weather making that will be moving its way into our region. Since the risk of the weekend severe weather is over, we now are turning our attention to oncoming cold temperatures that will engulf our state starting as early as tonight. Expected lows to drop into the low to mid 30s tonight. If you think that is cold, just wait for mid-week… Even though we will remain on the cool side to start the new week, it will then turn bitterly cold by the time we make it to Wednesday night. As new model data comes in, most are agreeing we could see overnight lows Wednesday night into Thursday dropping down into the teens. As of right now, we have forecast 19 degrees for Montgomery (but this number has been steadily falling each day)... and this cold air looks to stick around for a little while. Once we make it to the day on Thursday, temperatures will struggle to rise above freezing for afternoon highs for some locations. We will see another cold night across the region Thursday into Friday... temperatures will drop back into the upper teens and low 20s. For some locations, you may see below freezing temperatures for over 24 hours!! We look to warm slightly for the day Friday with highs in the mid to uppers 40s statewide. Bottom line: put your umbrella away and swap your rain jacket for a winter coat!!
