Tammy shares her story: I have always been super flexy, but undiagnosed until a year ago. I have for as long as I can remember had issues with my ears, and finally decided to get it checked out properly as they had deteriorated significantly. I was aware of hyper mobility. But only because of a friend, not due to any diagnosis on myself, nor had I ever felt that I was a bendy, just me being, well me! I have danced all over the place, nationally and internationally, and ankle issues for a while caused me to stop for some time. But I had never linked those bendy ankles with my ear issues. A wonderful doc formed the link and I was devastated to learn that my ear issues were permanent and due to the bones inside my ear moving and causing more damage. If only Id checked sooner, would the outcome have been different? Maybe, maybe not, there is no way of knowing. But I wont stop. Yes I still dance, learning a new style and learning the difficult thing of TELLING people of my issues. I can lip read well enough to get by, obviously easier if people face me. I can sign. And for those that can, I can read and use sign assisted speech to aid with lip reading. No its not easy, and it is pretty exhausting but there is always a fun side to things. If you lip read what is going on around you, there are some strange interpretations! And I dont hear my husband snoring! Being diagnosed has meant I have learn some wonderful new skills and a huge appreciation for sounds that I CAN hear.
