Tech News: Samsung has announced its new smart watch (not the previous overpriced-what the hell is this-who needs this thing Gear watches). The new Gear S runs on Tizen (their own designed o.s…promising) and has 3g connectivity on board. It features a 2” curved Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels. Under the hood is a 1GHz dual-core CPU, coupled with 512MB of RAM. Also included are 4GB of built-in memory, connectivity including quad-band 2G/3G, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, GPS/GLONASS, USB 2, built-in accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, heart rate monitor, ambient light and UV sensors, and a barometer. The smartwatch is IP67 certified for water and dust resistance (pool and beach things loading…and rain too). The Samsung Gear S has a 300mAh battery, which SHOULD provide at least 2 days of typical usage. Pricing isn’t available yet but get ready to dig deep. Also, The LG smartwatch names LG G Watch R has been unveiled having a fully circular Plastic OLED display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. It will be loaded with googles own smartwatch o.s, Android wear. LG G Watch R packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC with 1.2GHz CPU and 512MB of RAM. The smartwatch includes 4GB of built-in memory, 410mAh battery, and the usual array of sensors (gyro, accelerometer, compass, and barometer). The smartwatch is IP67 dust and water-resistant so wet outings will not be a problem. It is available only in black (they really should push out more colors…I like red). LG G Watch R should begin rolling out in early Q4 of this year 2014. Pricing and exact availability will be announced during the device’s local launch (rumors, about 250 Euros…in Naira should be about 50-60k). Tech support and services? We got you.
