Ted Schubel with Info to Go- From VDOT: Motorists will find icy road conditions in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula this morning, with a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain falling across the region. Interstate 95 and primary roads in the Fredericksburg are in minor condition, with isolated patches of ice. Motorists should use additional caution in areas where icy spots are more likely to develop, such as bridges, overpasses, and interstate ramps, and on subdivision streets and secondary roads carrying less traffic. Road conditions on primary roads in the Northern Neck are in minor condition, with isolated areas of ice, but conditions on primary routes such as Route 14, Route 17, and Route 33 in the Middle Peninsula are in moderate condition, with widespread icy conditions. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are treating roads in the 14-county Fredericksburg District this morning with sand and salt. Sand provides additional traction for vehicles, and salt will assist with melting ice and snow. In the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula, crews are devoting additional effort to treating bridges. Crews will continue to work 24 hours a day, in 12-hour shifts, until all roads are clear and safe for travel.
