Ten Things Bad DJs Do 1. Playing from their Phone. Now I know most of you don’t carry around crates with vinyls in them, but at least break out the Phone. If I wanted to listen to a poorly created playlist, I could listen to my own at home using my head sets. 2. Not playing for the crowd. I’m sorry but last time I checked, that was your JOB. This is why you can SEE the crowd from the booth. If the crowd was going wild and now everyone is texting/tweeting you should change the song. They’re probably writing how awful you are. 3. Not mixing. I’ve been in enough booths to know it’s not that hard. The program/CDJs/Mixer even matches up the beats FOR you. All you have to do is practice. Maybe if you spent less time cheating on your girlfriend and more time practicing, we wouldn’t have this problem. 4. Playing songs that are currently on the radio. Your job as a DJ is to play music I’ve never heard before or music I haven’t heard in a long time. Last year is NOT a long time ago. I should be Shazaming like woah or reminiscing with a huge smile on my face. I should NOT feel like I turned on the radio. If you MUST play a song that is completely overplayed, at least give me a dope remix. 5. Turning off the song at the best part. The breakdown of a song is usually what made the song famous. People are getting ready to belt/dance it out and you change the song? Rude. And just shows you’re not paying attention to the crowd. 6. Talking through the entire song Or letting people talk through the micro-phone throughout I did not come to hear you give shout outs all night. Thank you very much. 7. Scratching badly over songs that don’t mix. If it doesn’t work, maybe you should play another song. 8. Too Much Effects Effecting is an art form. If you can’t do it well, don’t. My ears are bleeding. 9. Playing the same songs in the same order. If I can predict what song you’re going to play next, you are a bad DJ. Period. It may also mean that I go out too much, but this is not about me. 10. Not listening to the DJ before you. Unless you were at a gig beforehand, you should try to hear what the DJ before you is playing. There is no reason for me to have to listen to over a dozen songs twice because you didn’t know they were already played. #Do_It_Right__
