Ten years ago, GMHC was the first AIDS service organization to host a screening and discussion of this brilliant documentary, "Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin," produced and directed by Nancy Kates and Bennett Singer. A disciple of Gandhi, a mentor to Martin Luther King Jr., and the architect of the 1963 March on Washington, Rustin dared to live as an openly gay man during the fiercely homophobic 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Mr. Rustin, an unsung hero in the civil rights movement, was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States. youtube/watch?v=BxhKgnyWcuw&feature=share
