Test Ride Number One. Took a Surly ECR around the Wild Coast (part of the Rimutaka Cycle Trail) yesterday. While its not officially a fat bike, the three inch wide tyres where what most people commented on - then the handle bars, which are swept back like Steve McQueens motorbike. Its been designed for bikepacking and seems to be ideal for gravelly and rocky trails. DOC have done quite a lot of work on the track and installed several cattlestops at farm gates. Just make sure you follow the blue markers at the Komatu Shingle Fan - they will take you on a great new bit of single track (avoids the steep 4WD track).
