Thank you Juliana Swanson: Jupiter Retrograde November 7! Bottom line [of this EarthSky.org article]: The giant planet Jupiter begins retrograde, or westward, motion in front of the stars [on Nov. 7]. Its stationary point, where it is poised motionless in front of the stars, is today. Jupiter will move westward until March 6, 2014. Its apparent westward motion is caused by the fact that we will pass between Jupiter and the sun on January 5, 2014. At that time, Jupiter will be said to be at opposition to the sun. This will be Jupiter’s closest opposition until 2020 [very close to Earth and bright at this time]. Jupiter is retrograde about four months a year. In astrology, Jupiter is the significator of expansiveness, wisdom and dharma (path and purpose). When retrograde, Jupiter is closer to the earth so that its influence becomes more prominent but perhaps more internalized. When Jupiter is retrograde, this can be a time when we feel more inclined than ever to look within for deeper understanding and new perspectives. We may be reviewing and possibly changing certain plans. Jupiter is conjoined the fixed star Castor in the constellation of Gemini at the time of its station (Gemini in the sidereal zodiac, not tropical). When Jupiter stations (turns retrograde or direct) near a fixed star like this, the essence of that star becomes more pronounced. Castors nature is akin to Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, which is all about inspiration and learning. Castor also signifies writing and creativity, activities which may be ignited for some of us during this time, depending on where the stationary Jupiter is in the natal chart. Castor with Jupiter can also point to issues with plagiarism and libel, so be aware that related matters may be reported in the news in the coming months. Jupiter is stationary, apparently stopped starting today and for the next five days. This is known as stambana, and also known as kutila in Vedic astrology. Kutila is a Sanskrit word that means many things, including “meandering” and also “perfume.” Jupiter represents expansive spirit (akash). Jupiter is also associated with the second swadisthana chakra (according to some schemes), where the focus of energy is creative, self-sufficient and joyful. These energies reflected by Jupiter may feel especially poignant and even magical in these five days, at least for those who are attuned and focused within.
