Thank you Prestonville Community Association for you overview of the situation... Schools To Friends Of The Field: Pick It Up! At last, the draft agreement for the future of BHASVIC Field has arrived from the Council and the schools that use the Field. But its not the future that Friends of the Field had in mind when they launched their bid to designate the field a Village Green. The draft commits the Council to dedicate the field as educational land, a school playing field and recreation ground. The Council and the schools undertake not to dispose of the Field without the Friends consent, or to build anything on it that is not for educational or recreational purposes. Although these are major undertakings, its worth noting that they wouldnt have blocked last years plan to build a free school on the field, because the Government could have overruled the local authority if it had wanted to force the proposal through. Nor would they have blocked the kind of developments by commercial sports enterprises which have been mooted in the past. From the outset, the Friends have told the schools that theyre keen to help take care of the Field, and have proved it with regular litter-picking sessions. The schools and Council have responded by giving the Friends the entire responsibility for public access. FotF would have to indemnify the schools and Council for any damage to the Field or its boundaries, and take out public liability insurance of at least £10,000,000. Friends would also have to unlock the gates at opening times – 6am at weekends, 6pm on weekdays, – and lock them at 10pm. Before locking up, they would have to ensure that no Dog Waste whatsoever is left on the field. That does, however, exclude urine. Possibly because the draft has already taken it.
