Thank you all for your prayers. Grandma Sue is doing great. Please become an advocate for any loved one in the hospital. The medical tests cannot always tell the entire story. In Mothers case, the brain bleed had already healed. Even though the scan showed it existed the Doctors really didnt know if it was a dry bleed or an active bleed. Unless I insisted on another scan being taken within 24-48 hours they wouldnt have done the necessary comparison needed to show no further bleeding. Also, the Doctor would not order I.V. glucose with is a basic form of nutrition because they had written off my Mom due to her inability to communicate verbally directly to the Doctor or lead RN. Moms dementia has limited her verbal skills but she understands plenty! Thank God my Aunt Betty advised me to tell the hospital that I would like them to sign a letter typed by me that they refused to provide basic nutrition to Mom immediately instead of waiting for 3-5 days because they thought she had an active brain bleed. With no active symptoms I asserted that she should receive basic IV nutrients immediately in the event that the condition was not deadly. Sure enough Mom woke up fine and my ongoing insisted for IV nutrition happen minutes after I placed the written letter to confirm denial of feeding. I assert, YOU MUST ask questions. Do not be intimidated by typical hospital Doctor/Nurse know it all hierarchy.
