Thank you everyone who came to the 2nd roundtable in Karachi. A big welcome to Nuruddin Abjani, Zahoor Motiwala, Mustafa Salim, Syed Shoaib Ahsan, Saad Saleem and Zain Mustafa. Thank you C4BL veterans for joining us again: Saadya Ahmed, Saad Humayun and Qasim. :-) On the education front, we will be moving forward. Zain Mustafa has kindly agreed to lead the Education Policy Research Group, and he will be forming his team for the same. Saad Humayun will be the lead facilitator for the Education Finance Unit which will do a comprehensive review of the money flow in Sindh education in the next 3 months. Numbers provide great context to our conversation about education. The Sindh government will spend Rs 132 billion on education this year. Assuming this money is used to educate 4.5 million children...the per student monthly spend comes to Rs2500. That is nearly the same as a top-level private school like The Educators. How is it that the a nonprofit government school provides a level of education lower than a private school that charges Rs 400 and still manages to make a profit? Insane. Also, considering this...why is there so much emphasis on enrolment when the real issue is service delivery and quality? Enrolment and budget increase will do more harm than good in the current environment. Would like to hear from Sana Kazmi who works with Alif Ailaan and Asad Mughni who is with Education Fund for Sindh on this. Anyone else with a point of view or information to share? And if the numbers are incorrect or wrong assumptions, please guide us. Please also connect us to people who are working in education who would be willing to help. Citizens for Better Leadership
