Thank you to our Resident poet Terry for Marks out of ten We rate our pain on a scale from one on up to ten A doctor will ask the question then mark it with a pen Now a normal person will range from three to four It depends on where they hurt and if they’re really sore My problem with the question when posed to you or me Is not where it hurts or by how much can’t you see It is about perception and pain receptors too And how they are so different for the likes of me and you Now we fibro warriors we can withstand a lot you see Our pain has risen off the scale and has long passed being three I do not wish to simplify your plight, or mock your pain for you But what I have to say now is simply just so true You, when asked the question will probably say eight or maybe more But let me tell you straight now you are only a three or maybe four The other thing that’s different is when you stop being sore We carry on with our pain everyday and then some more Unlike your pain that one day you know will be gone Ours just sticks around now forever hanging on It makes us that bit stronger each day that it is still here There is no point in whining or crying in your beer We often wish we were sitting there just like you Being able to mark our pain as simply being two When you’re healed and you are feeling so much better Your pain is all gone now, but ours is writing us a hate letter Can you understand our pain: - mine is always eight? It sometimes drops a little bit, then trust me I do feel great But more often it goes off the scale, and I’m back in bed again Because our pain is constant it always seems more than a ten I would settle for mediocre now a 5 or even six I have to take my pain meds to get a real quick fix So I pose the question while you are really sore How come you say it’s eight when I think it is just four? Can you imagine constantly being in pain through day or night? Please do not think to judge us or minimise our plight We would never think to do the same to you Even when asked about our pain as you all sometimes do © Terry Haslett facebook/Fibrolight To see more we are at facebook/Fibrolight please visit stay awhile, read, comment, click and share.
