Thanks Akshay for asking me to list my ten favorite books. Difficult to choose just ten, but let me try: 1. The Cyberiad, by Stanislaw Lem. A delightful collection of science fiction stories, revolving around two constructors who, well, construct extremely powerful machines which can do almost everything, including the dumbest things at times. 2. The Peoples History of the United States, by Howard Zinn. Most history books are written from the perspective of the kings, the conquerors, the ruling class. Howard Zinn presents USAs history from the perspective of native Americans, African slaves, Americas women, workers, immigrant laborers, and working poor. 3. What If the Earth Had Two Moons?, by Neil Comins. Superbly interesting, scientific explanation of how life would be in 10 different scenarios (two moons, earth being a moon, moon orbiting backwards, counter-earth on the other side of the sun, two suns, etc.). 4. The Chess Mysteries of the Arabian Knights, by Raymond Smullyan. 50 mind-boggling puzzles of retrograde chess (what happened earlier). 5. Fifty Psychology Classics, by Tom Butler-Bowdon. In one single book, you get summary and excerpts from, well, 50 psychology classics. This book led me to buy many of the books summarized in it. 6. The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, by Patrick Lencioni. A lively and instructive fable on the subject. 7. To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. A masterpiece. 8. Godel, Escher, Bach, by Douglas Hofstadter. I think I need to read it again. 9. झांसी की रानी, महाश्वेता देवी. Well-researched, lively biography of Rani Laxmibai and her bravery in the 1857 freedom struggle. 10. How to be Interesting, by Jessica Hagy My wishlist of books to acquire (if somebody wishes to gift me a book, here are some ideas) What if the Moon didnt Exist, by Neil Comins The Chess Mysteries of Sherlock Holmes, by Raymond Smullyan Counterflows to Colonialism, by Michael Fisher I now request the following to list their ten favorite books: 1. Shaurya Shaurya 2. Milind Padalkar 3. Narayan Venkatasubramanyan 4. Amita Saxena 5. Preetika Sharma [My, my, I have almost written a book in this post!]
