Thanks Fosters: Kittery Fire Station celebrates 8th 5K race KITTERY, Maine — The Kittery Fire Station Association held its eighth annual 5K Run and Walk on Sunday, May 18. Over 600 people were present at this successful fundraiser. This 5K kicks off the Kittery Challenge Series of three races. Runners who complete the Kittery Fire 5K, the Kittery Block Party 5@5 (5K) on June 21, and the Kittery PTA Seaside 4-miler on Sept. 21 will receive an award. This years 5K had a special dedication to regional first responders lost, with a moment of silence for Boston Fire Department Lieutenant Edward Walsh, Boston Fire Department Firefighter Michael Kennedy, and New Hampshire State Patrolman Stephen Arkell. Local student Lydia Hoffman sang the National Anthem. The fastest overall male was Tim Carven of Kittery Point with a time of 17:35. The fastest female was Beatrice Moyen from Quebec. This year set a record for numbers of sponsors, with over 60 local businesses and organizations. The race is known all over the Seacoast for its gourmet finish line offerings, and this year was no different. The Kids Fun Run had excellent attendance. The kids area was complete with face painting, games, balloons, fire engine tours, entertainment and kids snacks. All proceeds benefit the Kittery Fire Station Association, a volunteer organization of firefighters which supports the Kittery Fire Department and its many charitable programs. This years proceeds will be donated to the Kittery Fire Department for a thermal imaging camera. A thermal imaging camera can see through smoke and fire and has many safety uses, including searching for people inside and outside and finding sources of fire. Coastal Fitness of Kittery presented a $1,000 check to the Kittery Fire Station Association during the awards ceremony that will be used for the thermal imaging camera. The Kittery Fire Station Association is very grateful to all of the community support.
