Thanks Lambert D. for your thoughts i.e. On Modern Civilization and Tozer Of God and Man. We are perplexed at times regarding the complexities of life being a major distraction to a devotional life with Jesus Christ. The thoughtful soul to solitude retires, is indeed true if we desire it. Do we truly desire this intimacy with our Lord? How else can we hear His still small voice when we are too distracted today? The so called exigencies and vicissitudes of life should drive us to the cross, not away from it. More solitude and stillness for our souls, found only in quiet meditation and worship, before the Lord...I personally could not live in this world if I did not have this refuge... Singing to Jesus, singing to the Lord of our sinful hearts. He who was nailed to a tree, being the Lord of the universe. His virgin birth producing His holy blood, bowing in anguish, His sacred head...When we are quiet before Him and ponder this mystery, our selfish hearts desires will be crushed, our perceived personal importance quieted. (Fernando Ortega/Sing to Jesus) To commune with your own heart upon your bed and be still is the most joyous experience. Alone with Him,meditating line upon line, precept upon precept is rich indeed. We do not need the mystical experiences some promote today to have a richer experience with the Lord. To conjure up mystical experiences is foolishness. He is our joy, our life and being with Him fulfills our every need. It is the gentle, humble and contrite spirit that finds this unspeakable joy alone with the Lord. When I was in Iraq for a few years, in danger at times, I experienced the greatest worship and devotion of my life. It is true, dependance on Him. Just seek Him alone, mark the time and give it to Him everyday if you desire the greatest joy this life can bring, this side of eternity...
