Thanks Ryuu for another great review Scribs Picks: October 30th, 2013: Sandman: Overture #1 by Neil Gaiman Its been a while since Neil Gaiman touched back on the well loved Sandman story, but it’s a touch he hasn’t lost in this beautifully written prequel which tells the story of events leading to Dream’s captivity from the start of the original series. For those not familiar with the original series, this prequel is, as you might have expected, rife with spoilers. But, even so, it’s crafted in such a way that even those wishing to jump in for the first time can do so with ease. The brilliant art flows across the pages in ways that cannot be described adequately, and paint a picture that is perfectly in keeping with the original series. There are tons of little things in there for hard core fans to pick up on, plus lots of new things as well. It’s a very well crafted collaboration. This first issue has set the bar for what we are to expect from the series, and I daresay that Gaiman has done no less than his best with Sandman: Overture. He starts of with reintroducing us to the cast, and it would appear that this is to be a very character driven story that will deeply explore Dream himself. I definitely look forward to seeing where this adventure takes us, and I hope you will join me as Gaiman reveals to us more about the nature of the Sandman. Till next I scribe! Sincerely, Ryuu Scribbles
