Thanks to comScore, we know the lay of the smartphone ecosystem in the United States. Apple continues to grow up to 40.6% of all smartphones. 51.8% are running Android. BlackBerry continues to slide down to 3.8 percent. Nipping on the heels of BlackBerry is Windows with 3.3 percent. Apples rise is no surprise. Its a simple but effective ecosystem continues to be a tour de force in the industry. Androids dominance continues as Samsung continues to make a phone for just about everybody at every price point. Diving deeper into the stats, HTC & Motorola continue to decline. LG is flat with no change. Its an Android or iPhone world. What role Microsoft will play is yet to be determined. I do think theres room for one more smartphone platform. I dont know if Windows Phone is that solution. I wouldnt count them out. Were going to see new challengers in 2014 with Firefox OS, Tizen, & Ubuntu Touch. We also have some Chinese OEMs who want to enter the American market. The best news is that weve got plenty of choices & that this is a very competitive space.
