Thanks to former FCAA Board member Col. Ed Winkler , JD Veteran and ROTC Chapter: Staff Ride of the Battle of Baltimore, bicentennial Saturday, September 27, 2014 The Fordham University Pershing Rifles are conducting a staff ride of the Battle of Baltimore. They have invited all veterans and ROTC Alumni to join them. The famous battle where the United States held Fort McHenry in the Baltimore Harbor against the invading British. After the battle Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner, inspired by the ability of the US Forces to hold firm against the British. The staff ride will begin at 8:50 a.m. with everyone meeting at the entrance to Fort McHenry (Flag raising at 9 a.m.). The staff ride will consist of a tour of important locations and lectures by Dave Hilkert (U.S. Army Center of Military History). In addition, a 15 star-and-stipe flag similar to the one flown at the battle of Baltimore has been purchased by the Pershing Rifles. This has been flown over the Pentagon and the U.S. Capital and after flying over Fort McHenry will be presented to Fordham University together with the certificates stating the dates and places the flag was flown. (This presentation will take place at the Pershing Rifles Ball on November 9). The staff ride will end at approximately 4 p.m. Lunch will be available for purchase at the famous Broadway Diner just outside of Baltimore. Dinner will be available for purchase at Langermanns restaurant in Baltimore.
