Thanks very much to FTU reporter Dan Scanlan for this great article and for following this schoolhouse all these years. Huge thanks also to MMHS board member Karen Droege for inspiring us to try again to save it and then heading up the team that accomplished just that...including Jim Rafferty for helping keep track of all the details. Thank you to our Councilman, Matt Schellenberg, for designating monies from special parks improvement funds to this historic property. That commitment led the way for a successful campaign to raise funds for the project. Our gratitute to Amy Ver Beek Brown and other staff at City of Jacksonville Parks and Recreation for support, guidance and coordination. Our gratitude to the Mandarin Community Club for deciding to purchase the building for their 90 th Anniversary present to the Mandarin community. And, our heartfelt thanks also to two MMHS members who gave significant gifts and to all who contributed in any way. This was, and will continue to be, a group effort. We should all be proud for what will be accomplished by bringing this wonderful building into Walter Jones Park to be enjoyed by all.
