That’s it, we now change all 65 of them Murphy’s Law was in action on our special train trip yesterday, and half way to Tumoulin with all those wonderful people who had helped us with the track and reporters on board Capella now 88 blew 2 fire tubes leaving us stranded 300 metres from the Log Gully bridge. The 85 passengers were taken back to Ravenshoe by section car and then they drove out to Tumoulin by car where we celebrated anyway. We were after all there to celebrate the completion of the upgrade to the track which is now well above the required standard. The boiler has 16 flue tubes of which 15 were replaced recently and 92 fire tubes of which 27 were also replaced recently. A large number of fire tubes were replaced when the loco was rebuilt some years ago but we are unsure exactly which ones. As we do not want a repeat of the events of yesterday we have decided to replace the remaining flue tube and 65 fire tubes anyway. I will post updates on the progress being made and hopefully it will not be long before we are back up and running.
