The 2014 session of the Washington State Legislature adjourned - TopicsExpress

The 2014 session of the Washington State Legislature adjourned sine die (and on time) at 11:53 last night! It has been a pleasure to serve you since 2012. I look forward to continuing to serve you in the days, weeks, months, and years to come! While I surely do not agree with every piece of legislation that became law this year, there was a lot of good that took place. Most importantly, we were able to pass a responsible budget that is balanced and contains NO NEW TAXES. Equally important is the fact that this budget has a responsible ending balance, protecting the citizens from a need for any emergency revenue. I was thrilled to get all 5 of my bills passed through committee, and 4 of those bills passed off of the floor of the House of Representatives. 2 of those bills will become law, although credit was negotiated to a member of the Senate on one of them. I will continue to work the remaining bills throughout the interim, and bring them back to the table in 2015! Lastly, we all need to take note of what happens when conservative minded people have a seat at the table. Because the Senate was governed by a Majority Coalition (24 Republicans and 2 Democrats), we were able to stop over $1,200,000,000.00 in tax increases over the last two years. Most of these tax increases were focused on the backs of small business people. Because of this coalition we were also able to avoid thousands of new rules and regulations that would make it harder for Washingtonians to thrive. Thank you to all of my colleagues who have worked so hard to get where we are. I can truly say that I love my job, and the people that I work with. Thank you again to the people of the 18th Legislative District for allowing me to serve you!
