Although my friends didnt care for it, I was hooked from that opening kick-ass guitar riff that sounded unlike any other. In fact, when Weird Al parodied this song for his film UHF lead guitarist and vocalist Mark Knopfler said the only way he would give his approval is if he could play his distinct guitar on the record. The song isnt without controversy. There are actually several versions. The issue stemmed from a chorus that said... See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup Yeah buddy thats his own hair That little faggot got his own jet airplane That little faggot hes a millionaire Knopfler, to this day, insists hes not a homophobe and the song isnt his opinion. He wrote it based on a conversation he overheard in an appliance store. He did go on to say hed never write another first-person song again for fear of having it misunderstood.
