The ALS ice bucket challenge has done some incredible things in raising awareness, so I think Im gonna hop on their train to bring light to another health condition called Wilsons Disease. Wilsons disease is a rare genetic disorder with symptoms similar to that of Parkinsons. In people with Wilsons disease, copper isnt eliminated properly and instead accumulates in your organs to toxic levels over time. Copper is unfortunately in a lot of delicious foods (chocolate, nuts, wheat, pork, shellfish, avocados, etc.) and eaten pretty much everyday on an average persons diet. Thus Wilsons disease must be diagnosed early, preferably before any of the symptoms ensue, for the best treatment. While it is treatable with extremely pricey medications, there is no cure. That is why it is super important to help fund research with the Wilson Disease Association. There isnt a whole lot of information about Wilsons disease out there, and this is one of the few organizations trying to help the small amount of people who have been affected by it. You should like their page, donate, or do your own research on Wilsons disease! But even if you dont want to do that you are better informed after reading this :) Hooray for raising awareness and learning new things! healthline/health/wilsons-disease#Prognosis7
