The Amazing Pazyryk Carpet, the oldest known surviving carpet in the world, 5th century BC. The exceptional Pazyryk carpet was discovered in 1949 in an archaeological excavation in the Pazyryk Valley, in the grave of a Scythian prince (people of Iranian stock). Radiocarbon testing indicated that the Pazyryk carpet was woven circa 5th century BC, and to be a product of Achaemenians by its discoverer Sergei Rudenko. This carpet is 283 by 200 cm in surface area and the advanced technique used its production indicates a long history of evolution and experience in weaving. It is considered the oldest known carpet in the world. Designs similar to those woven on this carpet can be found on the rock reliefs of the Ancient Achaemenian city of Persepolis including: numerous images of bridled horses; Images of horse riders who also appear to be wearing the Padam (paitidana/ padan: ceremonial mouth covering worn by Zoroastrians to prevent polluting the fire with breath), and images of Kaviani flag, which are woven around the borders of this amazing carpet. (carpet is now kept at: Hermitage museum, Russia) Long Live IRAN, Everlasting be the Fire of Zartosht ♥
