The Animal Rescue Site I had never had a dog. I have three rescued cats and always considered myself strictly a Cat-person. But my husband, who had grown up with a dog always in his home, kept pushing to adopt a dog. I kept resisting. Then one day, my husband called me at work. He had been watching television and the local animal shelter had its weekly adopt-a-pet segment on our local news station. He told me he had just seen the perfect dog for me. So, that day after work, my husband took me to the shelter to see Daisy. He was right, she was perfect. A beagle-basset hound mix, she looked up at me with those sad eyes and I was hooked. We adopted her that day. Three days later, I found out I was pregnant with my first child. It was a difficult pregnancy, I was on bed rest for most of my third trimester. Daisy never left my side.
