The Argus 29 Dec 1911 CASTLEMAINE. The shopkeepers in Castlemaine, by common consent, decided to keep their shops open after 10 p.m. on Saturday night last,to catch the Christmas trade. The police personally warned the shopkeepers during the evening that if they did so they would run the risk of a prosecution. Some accepted the warning and closed at 10 p.m. but a great many pointedly refused, and kept open much later. It is now stated that no further action is to be taken, and those that accepted the warning and closed consider themselves badly treated
