The Bacon Mug Alright - heres how you do it. Took me some thinking to get it right, but Im glad to say that I didnt mess it up or waste any bacon figuring it out. I should have gotten some pics of the process; maybe next time. -Youll need at least one package of bacon and a brick of velveeta cheese. -I used an empty spaghetti sauce jar, which I wrapped in parchment paper to make removing the jar after cooking much easier. -Set the jar on its top and work from the bottom of the jar towards the top, which is now down. -Drape bacon evenly over the bottom, weaving the slices through each other by simply picking them up and laying them across each other. -Once the bottom is covered, start wrapping pieces around the jar using the same weaving method. Go slow and make sure you fill in the gaps. Dont make the pieces too tight; theyll shrink a little in the oven. -Once youve covered the sides and worked up the jar as far as youd like to go, smash all the bacon together gently by basically grabbing the jar in your hands and squishing it together. -Repeat this process until you only have two strips of bacon left, or youve covered your jar twice. -Use two pieces of bacon for the handle - lay them next to each other and then twist them together, folding the ends over to make room for attaching them. You can try to weave the handle in but I just used toothpicks to attach mine. Its just for looks, really. -Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. (yeah, fahrenheit - this is America) -Put this whole thing on a pan, a deep one. If this grease starts dripping into the oven the whole damn house is gonna fill with smoke and your kids will complain about it. Then youll have to open every window and turn the fans on and forget the A/C is on while its pumping money out the window. So then your wife will turn the A/C off and then it will get to be about 90 degrees in the house and let me tell you, that sucks. And by the time the smoke clears enough so that you can shut the windows and turn the A/C back on youll be sweating your ass off - so do yourself a favor and use a deep pan. -Cook it for about an hour or until its nice and firm but not crispy - you dont want to make it brittle. -Let it cool for a few minutes, then flip it over and slowly work the jar out - should come out nice and easy if you used parchment paper. Attach your handle at this point. -Melt velveeta, pour it into the mug and BAM! youve got your very own Bacon Mug! ***Some suggested filling it with beer cheese soup instead.
