SOUTHER (11/6/13) “We’re building them to last.” That’s a quote from J.D. at his 2013 induction ceremony for the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He was referring to the hit songs he wrote with the Eagles and the strong egos and competition during that time. Reading between the lines, one might infer that their co-writing sessions were not exactly unicorns and puppy dogs. Who cares! J.D. is like George Martin (The 5th Beatle) as you can say he was the 6th, no 7th, no 8th, oh whatever Eagle (they did have a lot of personnel changes!) He co-wrote several #1 hits including their first “Best of My Love” and last “Heartache Tonight” as well as “New Kid in Town.” That alone reflects J.D.’s longevity with the band, regardless of the lack of unicorns and puppy dogs. John David Souther was born in Michigan and raised in Texas. Coincidence? Glenn Frey was born in Michigan and Don Henley is from Texas… latebluehighway/blue-jean-baby-blog-post-7.aspx
