The Board of Trustees of The SAAGNY Foundation is proud to announce that Nicole Cohen, Amanda Forrest and Aisha Walker have been selected as recipients of the 2013 SAAGNY Foundation Scholarships. Each scholarship is worth $1,000 per year for up to four years. The SAAGNY Foundation received more than double the number of applications this year than in 2012. A panel of independent judges, each of whom is a current or retired educator, reviewed the applications and judged each applicant based on his/her grade point average, extracurricular activities, awards and accomplishments, outside jobs and projects, letters of recommendation and a 1,000 word essay. Nicole Cohen of Marietta, GA is the daughter of Bruce Cohen, Director of Dealer Sales for Westbury, NY based distributor Motivators, Inc. She will be entering her junior year in the Fall at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. She is an active volunteer with Relay for Life, volunteer coordinator for Challah For Hunger, a group that bakes and sells challah bread to raise money for the Athens Food bank, a member of several student organizations on campus, the Golden Key International Honor Society, National Beta Club, National Honors Society and on the academic Dean’s List. Amanda Forrest of Jericho, NY is daughter of Adrienne Forrest, Vice president of Sales for Woodside, NY based supplier Bulova Corp. Amanda will be graduating from Jericho High School this month and plans to attend Binghamton University in the Fall. She is a member of the National Honor Society, national Spanish Honor Society, National Latin Honor Society and received a cum laude score on the National Latin Exam. She has worked at the Jericho Public Library and volunteered at the Jericho Jewish Center. Amanda has also been an active participant in the Jericho High School Fashion Show, which raises funds for Angels on the Bay, a nonprofit organization providing services to the chronically ill, developmentally disabled and physically challenged children in the community. Aisha Walker of San Diego, CA is the daughter of Lori Walker, a customer service representative for San Diego, CA based supplier Goldstar/National Design. Aisha recently completed her freshman year at Loyola Marymount College in Los Angeles, CA. Aisha has volunteered as a teacher’s aide at a state funded preschool near her home, helped raise funds for the Linda Vista Recreation Center Youth Program and travelled to New Orleans to help in the ongoing reconstruction efforts following Hurricane Katrina. She has played goalkeeper for competitive soccer and volleyball clubs as well as her high school teams. She earned Dean’s List recognition following her first semester at Loyola Marymount and received the Honors Award and Honors with Distinction during her high school career. Since implementing the SAAGNY Foundation Scholarship program in 1999, The SAAGNY Foundation has awarded 46 scholarships worth in excess of $160,000 to the children of employees of SAAGNY member companies
