The Capitol Corridor is asking the public to comment on the scope - TopicsExpress

The Capitol Corridor is asking the public to comment on the scope of the environmental review for its proposed project to add a third track from Sacramento to Roseville. The third track would allow for more daily trains to Roseville. Bicycling will be impacted by increased train traffic at 28th Street in Midtown Sacramento, the only at-grade crossing along the entire 17.8-mile route. And there are these positive impacts: more opportunities for train-bike trips for more people, fewer cars on the road, reduced traffic congestion, and better air quality. The project also involves building a railroad bridge across the American River, just west of the existing RR bridge and the Capitol City Freeway bridge. This creates an exciting opportunity to incorporate the City of Sacramentos proposed bike bridge planned for the same area at less cost than building a freestanding bike bridge. This idea is still in the very early discussion stages, but the possibility sounds promising. You can learn more about the project, take part in an online meeting, and offer comments at sactoroseville3rdtrack.
