The Carrier Sekani Tribal council has worked with Canadian actors, producers and directors to develop a new documentary on the Highway of Tears. Chief Terry Teegee explains, the documentary is about all the missing women along Highway 16 and all the issues that are involved in trying to seek answers and justice for our women. But it also talks about the strained relationship that we have with the two levels of government and the RCMP. Teegee says the film covers missing women cases and the difficulties in implementing the 2006 Highway of Tears Recommendation Report which includes initiatives like a public transportation system along the highway started. Teegee says Vancouver actress Carly Pope produced the film with director Matt Smiley and Canadian actor, Nathan Fillion narrates the documentary. The film is showing this week at the Toronto International Film Festival and will be showing on March 16th at UNBC in Prince George. Teegee says they are hoping the film will have further viewings in Vancouver and LA and along the Highway of Tears itself. - HQBV
