The Choice He took two of the simplest elements – hydrogen - TopicsExpress

The Choice He took two of the simplest elements – hydrogen and oxygen and combined them in the most amazing manner – to form the most unique of all liquids – water! This simple molecule is a combination of two ions – (1) H+ or the hydrogen ion and (2) the OH- or the hydroxyl ion. The former is representative of all inorganic acids, while the latter is the very essence of all bases. Thus combined, water is a neutral liquid – the only pure compound with a pH of 7.00 Water is the only substance that can exist as a solid (ice), liquid (water) and gas (water vapour) at the same time. Check out pictures of the North Pole during summer to understand this. Water dissolves more substances than any other liquid. Wherever it travels, water carries chemicals, minerals, and nutrients with it. In the human body, water carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, cushions joints, protects organs and tissues. Also removes things that can harm the body. Water regulates the temperature of the human body and prevents serious after effects of over-heating especially to the brain. A person can live about a month without food, but only about a week without water. With no plumbing and pipelines as we know them today, people in Jesus’ time had to depend largely on water from wells to quench their thirst. Water was just as necessary to sustain life then as it is now. Thus when Jesus had that one-on-one chat with the Samaritan woman, it was at a well. It was there that He said (to her) “Everyone who drinks of this water (from the well) will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The woman failed to understand what the Saviour was offering her, but we do. Often we thirst after the things of this world and get them, yet our thirst remains unquenched. Jesus knows this. He knows that this unquenchable thirst is the thirst of the soul and not body. He also knows that the thirst of the soul is far more critical of the two. He offers that fabulous thirst-quencher to each of us – absolutely free of cost, but doesnt force it on us. He wants us to make that choice – each one for himself/herself, while He waits.
