The Conservatives have acted as the vanguard for the neoliberals - TopicsExpress

The Conservatives have acted as the vanguard for the neoliberals who have used the City to control and manage the parliamentary process. New Labour took the view that they could control this beast to everyones good. They couldnt, and their apologists, rather than face the reality of the causes of the banking crisis, blame Brown for the collapse. The Scottish people now have a choice: they can take back from the City the powers which it has usurped, or they can continue as they are - with a mere simulacrum of democracy. If they choose independence it will be costly, but if they stay within the Union the price will be democracy. The neoliberals have gained control of Britain, they have trashed civic values, they have captured the national infrastructure, they continue to erode the working rights of all, for the sake of profit, partly exacted through a system of privatised taxes. When you pay over the odds for necessities like a train ticket or gas you are in effect paying extra taxes, but to the private sector. Whats become clear is that a nation is now ready to walk away from this usurpation of democracy - the will of the people to govern themselves (whether for good or bad) may prove stronger than the neoliberal project after all. If Scotland moves on from the sorry, failed experiment which has all but destroyed democracy, the question will then be - what of England?. The neoliberals are convinced that nothing will change - and the Conservative hegemony is assured. Their confidence may be seriously misplaced, especially if Scotland starts out on the road of constructing a decent society and English people look north saying, Yes, we like that, so why not us too?
