The Cost Of Being Disabled The disabled community historically - TopicsExpress

The Cost Of Being Disabled The disabled community historically is among the poorest group of people but have the most expenses. Granted insurance will pay for a wheelchair, crutches, walker, cane of their choosing. Now lets review the cost of the devices that best suit my needs: 1. Wheelchair--$3000 with a possible yearly maintenance of tires $60, rims $500, & frogleg casters $57. This amount does not include reupholstering the chair. 2. Loftstrand crutches--$70, replacement tips $10 as needed. 3. Roho cushion--$350 (insurance will cover this). After warranty, covers $52 and repairs $80. 4. Catheters--$37 a month. Surgical lube for catheter--$33.30 a box. 5. Incontinence pads--$60 a month. 6. Frames for glasses if I dont wanna look like Steve Urkel with Medicaid glasses--$120. 7. Non-sterile examination gloves--$3. In 1 year, I have the potential to spend over $4000 on equipment I need to function. And over $100 every month ($70.30 just to pee!) We get punished if we try to achieve gainful employment. .
