The DVLA has from September 1, 2014 implemented Regulation 26 (5)(d) of L.I. 2180. The Regulation provides that an applicant shall satisfy the Authority that, the applicant has been satisfied by a DVLA certified and registered driver training institution as having undergone at least 48 hours of basic driver training before they can obtain a driving licence. For the purpose of this regulation, 48 hours of training means driver training spread over 48 hours. The hours shall consist of 18 hours theoretical training spread over two weeks after which a person can apply, take a Learner Test and obtain a Learners Licence and also obtain appointment for Theory Test. The applicant then returns to the Driving School to undergo 30 hours of practical training also over 8 weeks after the applicant will take the Theory and in-traffic tests. Successful applicants will be issued with Drivers Licence.
