The Drivers Dilemma: driving is the one. I drove a good 500 miles at the weekend. Thats an awful lot of money in the pockets of the oil companies, an awful lot of tarmac covered, an awful lot of pollution personally caused by ME :-( OK, so my car is a tiny little so-called eco-car, and I kept my cruising speeds at the most efficient consumption I could manage, other than those 2 hours it took to travel a mile or two near Heathrow. Plus I had a passenger and a lot of baggage to transport, so a car probably was the best option. And (my fave self-justifying argument): my car has only added to my appreciation, boosted my understanding, and deepened my connection to the natural world around me, by allowing me easy access to the deepest corners of the countryside which I just wouldnt be able to get to by public transport. BUT STILL... Have I got any right whatsoever to bang on about green issues, when Im doing my bit to add to our pollution, to destroy our countryside and add to the general techno-stress of the modern world? Should I sell the car?
