The Ebola virus disease first appeared in 1976 with a major outbreak in hemorrhagic fever in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan. Simultaneously it started outbreaks at Nzara, in Sudan, affecting 284 people with a mortality rate of 53% and Yambuku, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. 318 people were affected in Congo, with the highest mortality rate of 88% of any Ebola viruses.
