The Ebola virus has affected 1,202 people in West Africa, killing close to 700 people, since this outbreak began earlier this year. Sierra Leone has declared a state of emergency. The Peace Corps has sent its volunteers in the region home. And some African heads of state have canceled trips abroad to direct their full attention to the outbreak. The global health community – doctors, epidemiologists, humanitarians and policy makers - are also doing their part to contain the virus, find a cure, and prevent epidemics like it from happening again in the future.
