The Emperor and Empress of Japan are on a six day visit to India. This is the first time that any Japanese emperor sets foot in a South Asian country. However Emperor Akhito and Empress Michiko, had been to India in 1960, when they were newly married crown Prince and Princess. After 53 years they are back in India, interacting with common Indians. To the Japanese staying in India, it was one of emotional joy, for in Japan the Emperor is held in high esteem and he is hardly seen or heard in public.
