The Endless River Review Having listened to the latest offering from Pink Floyd with and without headphones for a couple days now, one thing in particular has become abundantly clear…This album is both a tribute and a thank you to Richard Wright. Make no mistake, The Endless River is not breaking new ground. What we have here, is a glimpse into the workings of a man who played a large part in the success of Pink Floyd. Whilst not considered a “keyboard wizard” and often ignored in the inevitable “Top Ten” lists, Richard Wright was incredibly unique and his rich palette of sounds and usage of such defined Pink Floyd in many ways… Despite the absence of Waters lyrics, and Gilmour’s vocals, (for the most part) there are some incredibly beautiful gems on this album, including Gilmour’s soaring guitar work which in my opinion, is worth the price alone. This isn’t an album to play at a dinner party, or to blast in your car. In isn’t going to define ones youth in years to come or create a generation of new fans and budding songwriters… It’s a real headphone experience, something to be absorbed in the right frame of mind along the lines of “Ummagumma” or dare I say it, “Obscured By Clouds” This is vintage Floyd, Waters-less of course, but early 70’s Floyd. The CD comes across as three men in their 50’s rediscovering a degree of youthful and creative camaraderie. To release the album is a very brave move, both hounest and forthright. A wonderful end to the Pink Floyd story and fitting tribute to a dearly departed friend… Richard William Wright 28th July 1943 – 15th September 2008
