The Episcopal Church The Episcopal Worship Overview (From Forward Movement Publication “Welcome to the Episcopal Church”) The Episcopal church understands worship together to be the primary way we express our unity and seek reconciliation with God and one another. The prayers come from “The Book of Common Prayer” and while the words are similar in all congregations, the style of worship can be quite varied. The liturgy, or structure of worship, draws us into the Good News of Jesus Christ by engaging all of the senses, creating services that are beautiful and engaging. Worship service always include readings from the Bible. In a sermon, the preacher proclaims the Good News of Jesus Christ, connecting the Bible to our daily lives. We pray for our own concerns and the needs of the world. Holy Communion, which we call the Holy Eucharist, is celebrated each week at most congregations. If you visit an Episcopal Church and Holy Eucharist is celebrated, please know that all are welcome at the table. Anyone may come forward to receive a blessing from the priest, and every baptized Christian, regardless of age or church affiliation, is invited to receive consecrated bread and wine which the Episcopal Church believes has become the Body and Blood of Christ.
