The Executive Director of KISA was asked to give a short address on behalf of the Cypriot society to the todays Demonstration of the French Community in Nicosia for Charlie Hebdo: Dear Friends It is very difficult for any person to express in words the feelings of sorrow, anger and revulsion for the murder of the journalists of the weekly magazine of Charlie Hebdo. This terrorist attack constitutes the most inhuman form of violence and fanatism which considers violence against and the extermination of persons, as a legitimate means, if not the only means, of dealing with the perceived “enemy”. I believe that these tragic moments should not lead our societies to more fanatism, violence, racism and exclusion but to make us think and work together for a society that condemns and eradicates violence as a means of resolving conflicts and differences amongst people, and which offers the possibility of promoting the rights and interests of all its members through dialogue, cooperation and mutual respect, and a society where the exercise of any rights is balanced against the respect and the rights also of others. This is, in my opinion, the best answer to the terrorist violence and the best tribute we can pay to the tragic victims of the Charlie Hebdo magazine.
