The F-16 in its own right is an excellent multi-role fighter, however, why the Air Force and Army considered this a worthy replacement for the A-10 is beyond me. In fact, one can draw parallels between the failed A-16 concept and the F-35A (USAF variant), which the Air Force apparently wants to replace the A-10 Thunderbolt II. It carries less CAS ordinance, and in fact doesnt have the same 30mm Gatling gun as the A-10, it costs more to operate it, and its unarmored.
