The FBI is investigating sophisticated hacker attacks on JP Morgan Chase and at least four other banks that they believe are payback for U.S.-imposed economic sanctions on Russia. Investigators have found the fingerprints of Russian state-sponsored hackers in the attacks, which have resulted in the thefts of sensitive information that could be used to drain accounts, U.S. officials told Bloomberg News. “We are working with the United States Secret Service to determine the scope of recently reported cyber attacks against several American financial institutions,” FBI spokesman Joshua Campbell said earlier. The Russians have a history of using crooks to launch cyber attacks against enemies of their state.
