The Family That Preys Together, a Tyler Perry film, was on last night. I watched it again. I like the true to life lessons that are revealed in the story line. Last night a few scenes involving Sanaa Lathans characters disrespect for her husband because of her own pain, high minded fantasies, unrealistic expectations, and disregard for the plight and struggles of her husband as a black man in trying to survive in America pricked my heart. It pierced my heart soul and leads me to ask thos question. Is part of the destruction of the black family and community because far too many sistas are turning into Sanaa Lathans character once they get a degree and a good paying job? Are the sistas who achieve academic and career success beginning to believe they are too good for the average hard working brotha or one who has to overcome his past mistakes?
